The Phantom Menace

Unfortunately, to this point, I have not yet gotten around to gathering the resources that I need in order to adequately finish this part of my Cut Scenes section, with material I've compiled myself. However I do have one element which I've had on my site since almost the begingin of its existence, not too long ago. Enjoy!!

4/18/00 A cut scene from the opening of "The Phantom Menace" - Courtesy of Jedisluggo

I found a pic of PK-4, a droid whose scene aboard the Trade Federation blockade ship was cut. I got it out of the Phantom Menace issue of CINEFEX Magazine. The scene from the movie would be as follows:

INT. FEDERATION BATTLESHIP - DOCKING BAY - SPACE A PROTOCOL DROID, TC-14, waits at the door to the docking bay. Two WORKER DROIDS, PK-4 and EG-9 watch.

Click to EnlargePK-4: "They must be important if the Viceroy sent one of those useless protocol gearheads to greet them."

The door opens and the Republic cruiser can be seen in the docking bay. Two darkly robed figures are greeted by TC-14.

TC-14: "I'm TC-14 at your service. This way please."

They move off down the hallway.

EG-9: "A Republic cruiser! That's trouble don't you think?"

PK-4: "I'm not made to think."

I have put the picture side by side with a Doug Chiang drawing of PK-4 that I got from T-bone's site. Note that they have identical "eyes", unlike the "one-eyed" pit-droids. This pic is also significant showing that the scene with PK-4 and EG-9 was actually filmed. I don't know if any post-production work was done on it, however. It might have been cut early on...

11/29/00: UPDATE (by Sean Crandall)

Who said the Ultimate Edition of TPM Soundtrack was worthless?? I certainly didn't, in fact I liked it from the start. And I like it even more now, since it seems to confirm that the scene descibed above was actually filmed and perhaps cut fairly late in the editing process. How's that?, you might ask. Well, soon after the Republic ship lands on the Federation Cruiser, TC-14 greets Qui Gon and Obi Wan and guides them quickly towards the confrence room... If you skip ahead to when the dioxins were filling the room; there still doesn't seem to be enough action to fill the time that is elapsed in the music specifically composed for these scenes. There's not a whole lot more music that was composed originally by John Williams, but there's enough to note that the missing scene in question was most likely still a part of the movie by the time that the Musical score was recorded, which was likely to have occurred late in the editing process.
